Entrepreneurship often stems from various motivations. For Mark McIntosh, being laid off due to restructuring led him to forge his own path.
McIntosh’s expertise and passion lie in the field of information technology (IT). With his family’s backing and after thorough research, he discovered the Elgin Business Resource Centre (EBRC) and the Self-Employment Benefits program, which is supported through the Community Futures Program.
After finishing the program, McIntosh went on to establish MarkIT in February 2013. In 2016, he joined EBRC’s Innovation Centre for Entrepreneurs (ICE) as a tenant and has been there for eight years, utilizing five suites. As the business grew Mark was able to incorporate in July 2020. In August 2020, MarkIT partnered with Office-Wave, owned by Calin Popescu, to form MC Business Technology Consulting Group. Now, McIntosh is eagerly awaiting the availability of another suite proving that the valuable support received by EBRC and the Community Futures program and one’s entrepreneurial passion are a perfect combination for growth and success.
“The Self-Employment Benefits program was the best thing I ever did. The individuals who facilitated this program at the time allowed me to stick with this entrepreneurial journey with their honesty on how to make a business work. I credit this program with helping me get into the successful business I have today. I am now nearly 11 years into this business journey and will never turn back.”
