On Thursday, April 25, 2024, Nottawasaga Futures, a Community Futures Development Corporation, had the privilege of hosting the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada; the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario; and the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry. These distinguished guests engaged in a discussion with local business owners from South Simcoe, exploring their operational experiences and challenges, particularly amidst the current economic climate.
The gathering, held at Alliston Flooring, featured nine clients of Nottawasaga Futures – New Tec Kitchen & Beyond Inc., Hollywood Pizza, Table for Two Steakhouse Inc., Monx Design Inc., EXC Floor and Trim, CW Coops – Angus, Moon Café & Craft Beer Ltd., and Sheldon Creek Dairy participating in roundtable discussions, offering a diverse representation of the local business community.
During the discussions, participants shared their daily hurdles, emphasizing the necessity for more tailored support from governmental entities. This led to in-depth conversations regarding the effectiveness of existing government assistance programs and areas that could benefit from enhancement, as perceived by the business community.
A central theme of the dialogue was the promotion of economic growth. All involved parties concurred that ongoing collaboration between the government and local businesses is pivotal to ensuring the sustained growth and prosperity of businesses in South Simcoe.
