Cocoon is an innovative office rental space specifically designed for mental health practitioners in downtown Orillia. The project was born out of a personal experience by its founders, Candice Potter & Steven Caston, who, as registered psychotherapists, faced the challenge of finding an affordable, comfortable, and professional office space.
Recognizing the need for a flexible solution, they created Cocoon—offering mental health professionals the ability to rent office time by the hour or day, making it easier for both new and established practitioners to run their own businesses.
The founders purchased a charming building in a central location and designed each office to create a warm, inviting atmosphere that promotes trust and comfort for clients. By providing a flexible rental model, Cocoon enables practitioners to avoid the financial burden of full-time office leases while still offering a professional environment tailored to their needs.
The space has quickly become a valuable resource for mental health professionals working in various specialties, including grief counseling, couples therapy, play therapy, and support for neurodiverse clients.
The founders of Cocoon received valuable support from the Orillia Area Community Development Corporation (CDC), which played a key role in the success of the project. The CDC helped guide the founders through the process of developing their business idea, providing resources, mentorship, and assistance with securing financing.
With the CDC’s help, Cocoon was able to create a space that meets the growing demand for flexible, affordable office options for mental health professionals.
With ongoing support from the Orillia Area CDC, Cocoon is now a cornerstone of the local mental health landscape, providing a supportive and empowering space for professionals and clients alike.
